Hi ZDoc,

I own a superb 300ZX 1990 Fairlady Auto, In London UK. I have a problem but no one really to ask advice..

My story is...

Last night as I was reversing, I put the car into drive, a little too quickly. Now when I start the Car, when I depress the foot brake I now don't get the "click" in the gear stick console, that allows me to put the car in gear, I can override this by pushing down the little lever at the front of the gearstick. This allows me to reverse no trouble (except the beeper has stopped?) but if I try to go into D,2 or 1, it feels as though the "clutch is slipping" I have checked the Gearbox fluid level and this seems fine?

Does this sound familiar?

Cheers

Cheers Phillip,

Doc here, you sound like the detent is not lined up. With the console lifted you should see the electric solenoid that gets voltage when the brake pedal is depressed and the brake light comes on. Does the brake light work? It may just be a blown fuse. The manual override lever that you describe releases the shift lever. I pray that you haven't damaged a clutch pack in the automatic transmission. Does it drive normal when going forward on the roadway and upshift correctly?

Please keep me posted about your findings. I'll endeavour to assist you, and I'll bring my Nissan Factory Service Manual home to reference further help for you if necessary.
