'81 Z with Noisy Bearing in 5-speed

HI Doc,
Sometime in '97, I believe you had an article in the ZONC news about
replacing the noisy bearing in a Z 5-speed (81). We are doing a clutch on
my son's Z and I can't find that article. Could you upload it or mail me a
copy or something? Do I need to take the case apart or can I extract the
bearing from the bellhousing plate?

Doc here, yes you need to disassemble the transmission and have
special tools to replace the bearings. Grindings from the reverse idler
are the culprit to the rear countershaft bearing failure in the transmissions.
I have a different approach to rectify this situation when I rebuild the
transmissions. There are some other variations in the 5 speeds through the years to have the final upgrade. I hope that this helps you...

280Z Dies SudenlyTravis here(Zonc #98029), in Fresno. I have a problem with my 1977 280z which I can not figure out. It started today. Just driving down the road the car shut off, I disengaged the clutch and it started right back up. I drove it home only about a mile. Tonight I drove it to FSU and it shut off 3 times on the way there, while it was cold and running at temp. I just hooked up a test light to the fuel pump and drove the car. The light is inline with the pump so when the pump is getting power the light is on.
