Thank for the reply, That is what I get for getting the job done at "Clutch Mart", And yes there is noise when the clutch is disengaged or the trans is in neutral. Any info will help.

Hi Frosty,.

Doc here.......Sorry to hear that! The transmission may need to have the input bearing and seal replaced and possibly the clutch disc too if it has been oil impregnated there is no fix except replacement. Usually the cover and the flywheel are salvageable with some cleaner and sandpaper if they are not burned. It may be necessary to do a tear down inspection of the transmission. The sounds that I hear should be taped and categorized so that the public would have a tangible diagnostic sound reference. Almost every vehicle made regardless of brand has characteristic basic sounds that are very helpful in the diagnosis of up and coming or existing problems. Then again there are some normal sounds that are no problem at all and just characteristic for the vehicle. I know that I have been in the collecting sounds mode for more than 35 years and they are a very important tool for the Doctor and the patient. Yes I sometimes use a stethoscope to get a closer pinpoint on the source of the sound, and the accurate diagnosis too. Sorry if I got long winded, but to Hear It is to tell the truth. I don't know where you live, but Mariposa is on the way to Yosemite, and not too far from the Bay Area or Sacto.............I hope that this helps you...........

280Z Dies SudenlyTravis here(Zonc #98029), in Fresno. I have a problem with my 1977 280z which I can not figure out. It started today. Just driving down the road the car shut off, I disengaged the clutch and it started right back up. I drove it home only about a mile. Tonight I drove it to FSU and it shut off 3 times on the way there, while it was cold and running at temp. I just hooked up a test light to the fuel pump and drove the car. The light is inline with the pump so when the pump is getting power the light is on.
