Fuel Line Blockage

Doc,

My 72 240Z stalled. Then it started later so I stopped at the gas station to get more gas and went home. I wanted to start it later and it wouldn't start. I had already put new spark plugs, points and gas filter. When I looked at the gas filter and tried starting, no gas was reaching the filter. I have replaced the ignition coil and it still didn't start. I thought it might be the electric fuel pump, so I traced the fuel line to the gas tank and there is no electric fuel pump. Do you have any idea why the gas is not reaching the fuel filter and mechanical fuel pump. As you can tell I am doing allot of guessing and could use some of your know how.

Thank you,

Roman

Hi Roman,

Doc here, you need to check the old fuel lines in the front and at the gas tank for cracks or internal obstruction. If the fuel lines are original then replacement is recommended, but before replacing them take the gas cap off and then have someone listen at the filler area and with the fuel hose off the inlet to the fuel pump blow back into the tank. There should be no restriction in the line after the fuel is blown back into the gas tank your assistant should hear bubbles in the tank. If not go through the system and find the obstruction. If there is fuel wet on any fuel hose then there is a crack and air is getting into the system and needs replacement.
I hope that this helps you...
