Hello Doc,
I hope you will be able to shed some light on my situation. My husband bought me a 1982 280ZX turbo, but it will not start. It has been sitting for about a year now because I have no idea what is wrong with it. I replaced the fuel pump, but that didn't help. There aren't too many mechanics in Pennsylvania who are willing to work on Z cars, and I would like to do most of the work myself anyway. Please email me with any suggestions you may have.
Thanks,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,
Doc here, you first need to make a determination if there is spark to
the spark plugs. The turbo model uses an ECCS control system for the fuel injection and many needless $'s in parts are the case in troubleshooting in error. The more complex ECCS system heavily relies in the distributor assembly and finding another turbo in the same vintage area is really helpful in the substitution method for some troubleshooting problems. The best investment is the Datsun/Nissan factory service manual by far. The other ones are just enough
information to get you going in circles and frustrated!
Has the "Z" ever run when you had it? Please again check for spark and report back to me, since the spark signal to the ECU (computer) is critical also for the injectors operation. Simply put, no spark- no fuel = no start!
I hope that this helps you...
