Dear Gary Goodlund:
I am looking for 16" wheels, 7" wide and zero offset with a 4 bolt pattern for 240Z, manufacturing date Feb.1971. I am looking for wheels in good shape that someone is parting with at a reasonable rate.
Is 7" as wide as one can go on an early 240Z? In the first issues of Z Car magazine, there is a 1971 built by Fourways Engineering with 16" x 8 1/2" wide Compomotive split rims equipped with Pirelli P700 225/45 Z R rated tires. Will this work on my 1971 Datsun 240Z with progressive Eibach springs, non-adjustable Tociko strut with Suspension Technique sway bars?
Please advise: Scott Martin
Gary Goodlund forwards message to Doc and replies:
Hi Scott,
I'm forwarding this to Doc Kanarowski, the Technical Coordinator for ZONC. There are quite a number of variables that determine the limits for tire/wheel width and each combination has its own limit due to ride height among other things.
Doc's a lot more familiar with the best choices than I am.
Bye for now,

Hi Scott,
Doc here, you need to check out the looks of the wheels on my 1970 240Z has 16x7" rims with 225x50x16 Brigestones on it with zero offset. This set up with rolling the inner wheel wells I can install my cables too if necessary. I am pretty sure that the 8 1/2 wide rims will hit the suspension or fender wells. I have a similar setup with ST's Sport Springs and sway bars and adjustable Tokico Luminas.
The next best advice that I can give you is to go for the new wheels and not used ones. The chances for some that are not damaged or bent are very slim! It doesn't stand to reason to buy more problems.
I hope that this helps you.........
